Reflection ...

Many people reflect over many different things in many different ways. Some people make notes, then look back and reflect over how they can improve in certain areas. Other people prefer to discuss their strengths and weaknesses with friends and reflect on how they can improve. From now on, my blog will be my own reflective journal :) ...

Do Footballers Deserve All of the Credit They Get?

Back in 2007, The Daily Mail suggested that football legend, David Beckham, could possibly receive a knighthood by the year 2017. The website states that Sir Bobby Robson accused former Prime Minister, Tony Blair of handing out knighthoods ‘too lightly’. Sir Bobby argues;  "My general view is that honours under this Government have come to be awarded too lightly.” I for one definitely agree with this, as will many others across the country. Why should David Beckham suddenly become, ‘Sir David’ merely by kicking a football around Old Trafford every now and then? However, Beckham has given some of his millions to charity ... does he deserve to be knighted in the sense?  Then again, why does Sir Bobby Robson deserve his knighthood? Yes, the former England Manager undoubtedly brought a lot to the team, yet one may ask why does he really deserve it? "For people of my generation, sportsmen given MBEs or OBEs should be special. And a knighthood should be recognition for a lifetime's work, not half a lifetime." I do partly agree with Sir Bobby’s thoughts,  knighthoods should be granted to those who deserve recognition for their lifetime achievements , yet some people may still be in disbelief as to whether or not sportsmen and women actually deserve to be knighted.
